“We have a beta of Glider 1.6.1 ready to go. The big change, of course, is Tripwire and its internal parts. This version handles the known changes to WoW client 2.4.2. I want to do a beta real quick before release, as the number of driver changes could lead to a blue screen or two.
It’s very stable on our test machines here, though, so you’ll notice that the designation is already as Release. If there are no reports of blue screens over night, we will release tomorrow.
Three important notes:
1) This version is more likely to trip out in some circumstances. Don’t be alarmed, it’s fine if you get tripped out. Drop us a note or post with an incident ID from GliderTell.
2) It’s technically possible that yet more sneaky stuff lurks in 2.4.2, although I highly doubt it. I spoke with Lax a lot yesterday and he found pretty much the same stuff I did, although I had a head start while he was eating. However, everyone is human (except for Hillary Clinton, who is definitely a bot), so there’s a chance something remains. You might be wise not to instantly borrow all of your Sunwell guildies’ accounts and run 40 copies at the same time.
Having said that, there is no risk from the known stuff with this version.
3) You really should run with the driver. If you’re an advanced user and using /nodriver for 64-bit or other stuff, you are at a much greater risk now.”
“I just want to post a quick status update, since there are a lot of questions and information/misinformation floating around. I don’t like to share too much info, but you guys need to know some stuff.
1) There was definitely software detection, patched in at 2.4.2, not in Warden. If you used Glider or InnerSpace between the 13th and 20th of this month, there’s a very good chance your account was closed. If you haven’t used either tool since then, your account should be fine. Some people will claim otherwise. Be leery of such claims, as there could be other factors at play like IP address lookups or general bullshit.
2) We’re working on changes to Glider here for the current method and should have something beta-able late tomorrow. We hate to beta something like this, but the driver changes are fairly big, so there’s a greater chance of blue screens or other ugliness. As normal, the beta is limited becase we want to avoid crashing your computers, not bans - if we weren’t sure about safety, we wouldn’t beta it at all.
3) We’re also working quite a bit on the patch process to prevent this kind of action from slipping through again. We do our best at patch time, but it’s a big app and we are human - looking back, I can see a lot of ways this could have been caught if I’d known at the time. If there’s anything positive to come from this, it’s that we always secure the process much tighter here in such times to prevent the same thing from working twice.
4) I don’t know the exact rules for cross-IP or cross-contact banning, since that all happens server-side. Some people reported losing a bunch of accounts on a single IP, even though they only had Glider/ISX loaded with one. Some people didn’t. It’s not all that important, honestly, since it’s nothing we can manipulate. Just keep in mind any theories or guesswork on the topic are exactly that. Fun to guess, not fun when some dumbass asserts his opinion is 100% truth.
5) Elite sub time will be extended, which is easy if you have a cc sub or you’re on a 60/120-day. If you have a PayPal sub, your expire date will move out, but we can’t change PayPal’s bill date. So the best way to cash in those extra days is cancel the PayPal sub and re-up via the normal credit card here. When you do that, we only bill the cc at the sub’s expire date, so it’ll automatically move the bill date to the right time.
6) I’ll have more info tomorrow.
7) Quick edit: no, this is not related at all to the legal action. Just a very unfortunate part of being in this business.”
Ok, so virtual property disputes aren’t exactly new, but there’s a little wrap up on some of the current issues over at a Canadian website. Most of the issues discussed revolve around Second Life, but the questions of virtual property and other virtual issues are getting increasing attention:
[Entertainment lawyer Susan] Abramovitch said the virtual economy has opened the door to new legal issues that are only starting to be addressed around the world.
“The original question is, do we actually need to specifically regulate the virtual economy?” Abramovitch said. “Is it different enough to create challenges or do the regulations that exist in our physical world apply?”
The answer, she said, is gaining importance because private companies currently dictate the “rules” of the virtual world through their end user licence agreements.
Concerns regarding EULAs have gotten a fair bit of (academic) attention in the past couple of months, but the fact that these “virtual” cases are getting real world settlements raises a lot of interesting questions.
I’m presenting you a guide how to make Glider safer and more efficiant than ever before!
These settings are really important and make gliding alot safer and faster.
To start off, open your glider.config.xml in your Glider folder with notepad or something similar. But the actual windows notepad works very well. There you can change these parameters:
—Whitelist / Tagging—
<BadTagLimit>2</BadTagLimit>
You can set here, how many times Glider let people tag your mobs until Glider logs out.
My Suggestion: 4
<BypassTagCheck>True</BypassTagCheck>
With this parameter you can control, if Glider should ignore other people attacking your mobs or not. True means ignore, False means don’t ignore.
My Suggestion: false
<FriendWhitelist>name</FriendWhitelist>
You can put names in here for the whitelist. Glider will not make an alarm or log out for those people.
—Looting—
:!: Attention, don’t use these values for skinning :!:
<LootHoverDelay>500</LootHoverDelay>
You can put here the time, how long Glider should wait between the time the mouse found the corpse until Glider checks another time if the corpse has moved.
My Suggestion: 350
<LootHoverDelay2>500</LootHoverDelay2>
Time between check, if the corpse has moved (LootHoverDelay) and the time, Glider should make a real click on the corpse. If Glider misses out loots, make the value higher.
My Suggestion: 100-200
—Looting Coordinates—
Here you can change the mouse movement Glider uses while looting.
My Suggestion: (Glider loots from bottom to top, it’s about 10-40% faster!)
<LootPattern>(48 64)(48 60) (48 56) (48 52) (48 48) (48 44) (48 40) (48 35) (48 30) (48 25) (56 40) (56 44) (56 48) (56 52) (56 56) (52 56) (44 56) (40 56) (40 52) (40 48) (40 44) (40 40) (44 40) (52 40) (52 44) (52 48) (52 52) (44 52) (44 48) (44 44) (64 60) (60 60) (56 60) (52 60) (44 60) (40 60) (36 60) (32 60)</LootPattern>
—Waypoints/Profiles—
<WaypointCloseness>5.0</WaypointCloseness>
The radius in yards, how close Glider has to be to a waypoint, until Glider achieves the waypoint.
My Suggestion: 1.5-10 (depends on the profile!)
<AutoAddDistance>10</AutoAddDistance>
The gap distance in yards of the waypoints, Glider is creating during the automatic creation process of profiles.
My Suggestion: 5
I wanted to give a very early head’s up to all of you Zul’Aman raiders out there:
Once Wrath of the Lich King goes live, you will no longer be able to obtain the Zul’Aman bear mount by saving all 4 prisoners in the timed run. The Bear Mount will be replaced by a very good, epic item that is level appropriate for people doing the zone. To be clear, the Zul’Aman bear mount is supposed to be an item of very high prestige. We want players who have earned it during the appropriate era (aka before the level cap gets raised) to be recognized for their accomplishment. We have absolutely no problem with higher level players (above level 70) going back and doing Zul’Aman after Wrath of the Lich King is live. We just want to preserve the accomplishment of having saved all 4 prisoners at the intended difficulty level.
We will most likely do something similar with the titles “Hand of A’dal” and “Champion of the Naaru” as well.
Please don’t panic! You still have plenty of time to complete these feats! Wrath of the Lich King is coming along great but is not ready yet! In fact, we’re not even in beta yet! So have fun adventuring for your bears and titles but please consider this your early warning.
A quick description of some of the spells:
• Death Coil — Depletes all Runic Power, dealing 600 damage to a non-Undead target, or healing 900 damage on a friendly target.
• Death Grip — This is the Death Knight’s “taunt” ability. It also pulls the target to the Death Knight, forcing them to attack the Death Knight for a short amount of time. Yes, I said pulls the target; Blizzard is going to allow players to move mobs in the expansion both with Death Grip, and other knockback/pull abilities. This works on players too, so PvP balance ahoy!
• Chains of Ice — Roots the target in place. When the spell fades, it places a snare on the target that reduces in potency as the duration runs out.
• Raise Dead — Raises a nearby corpse to fight for the Death Knight for 2 minutes. If used on a player corpse, the player has the option to play as the ghoul for the duration — gaining access to the ghoul’s abilities.
- The ghoul has the ability to do the following:
– Leap to the target
– Rend for decent damage-over-time
– Stun target, and of course more
• Death Pact — Sacrifices the raised ghouls to heal the Death Knight.
• Death and Decay — Targeted, AoE Damage-over-time which pulses similar to the Paladin spell Consecration. Anyone affected by Death and Decay has a chance to be feared.
• Frost Presence — Increases Armor by 45% and allows the Death Knight to generate 25% more threat. Only one presence can be active at any time.
• Unholy Presence — Increases Attack Speed and Movement speed by 15%. Only one presence can be active at any time. This was described by Tom Chilton as the “PvP” presence.
• Anti-magic Shield — Reduces the damage of the next magical spell cast on the Death Knight by 75%. It also converts the damage reduced into Runic Power.
• Strangulate — Depletes all Runic Power, dealing minor damage and silencing the target for up to 5 seconds.
• Summon Deathcharger — Allows the Death Knight to summon a Deathcharger mount. This mount is acquired through quests, similar to the Paladin and Warlock land mounts.
General
• Players will unlock their flying mounts at level 77
• You can use your Outland flying mount, and Blizzard will have new flying mounts for players to get as well
• The Northrend in Wrath of the Lich King is considerably larger than Outland, the area explored by players in Burning Crusade. That means not only are there larger numbers of zones to explore, many of them are so large that they’ve been divided into “sub-zones,” much like Terrokar Forest and the Auchindon Waste in Outland.
• The new “vehicle” system will enable characters to “drive” an object around. One example Blizzard gave them: Players will fly over a human settlement being overrun with the Scourge, lowering a ladder down to pull up and rescue civilians. In one dungeon instance, players will be able to “liberate” some blue dragons that they can mount up and fly around, fighting their way up a massive tower.
Old Azeroth contents used in Northrend
• There are quests and content relating to the Worgen and the sons of Arugal (from Silverpine Forest) and everyone’s favorite religious fanatics, the Scarlet Crusade (called the Scarlet Onslaught in Northrend).
• They’re also advancing the Forsaken storyline, adding in uniquely Forsaken building architecture and giving the player more chances to help in their Wile E. Coyote-like quest to kill every living thing on Azeroth.
Factions
• The Argent Dawn faction returns in Zul’Drak.
• In Sholazar Basin, players will take part in a faction-reputation war between the Wolvar (sentient wolves) and Oracles (”the next evolution of the Murlocs”). A much lighter take on reputation gaming is promised here, with players actively encouraged to defect to the other side at will.
Professions
Inscription
• Inscribers will create glyphs that allow players to modify their spells and abilities.
• The first recipe is going to requires Peacebloom, thus they’ll rely on the herbalist gathering profession.
• Every player will get a new spell book page to which they can add six glyphs - currently, four major and two minor.
• Major glyphs will be effective in combat - adding damage over time or stun to a physical attack, for example - while minor glyphs will give convenient or cosmetic improvements, removing the need for some spell reagents.
• Glyphs can be sold on the auction house.
Dungeons & Raids
• Similar to World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, all 5-person dungeons will have a Heroic mode, and the loot tables for the 2 modes will be totally separate. Heroic dungeons will have their own “Tier” of armor completely unique to that level dungeon.
• The regular five-man instances take around one hour or less to beat (this probably won’t be the case for the heroic versions)
• Zero raid bosses have been designed at this point
